As part of our baker bio series, CareLink is excited to introduce Dempsey Bakery as a participant in the upcoming Cupcakes for Goodness Sake competition.Established in 2011, Dempsey Bakery is not the average bake shop. All of the products served in this adorable, 1950’s-themed establishment are 100% gluten, wheat, soy and nut free! Many options are also egg, dairy and sugar free. After coping with food allergies, gluten intolerance and special dietary needs in her family, owner and founder, Paula Dempsey saw first-hand the benefits of a non-traditional diet. In hopes of making delicious baked goods available to others with food sensitivities and sharing the benefits of a gluten-free diet with the public, Paula set out to open her own specialty bakery. New to the food industry and the world of gluten-free alternatives, she hired a baker and worked for a year to create and perfect the recipes that would eventually make up the menu of her shop. Her goal is to bake products that compete with the traditional bakeries in quality, taste and decoration. Now in its fourth year of business, Dempsey Bakery serves breads, cookies, cakes and pies, as well as pre-packaged, grab-and-go meals. Lunch is also served in their café 11-2 daily.Since the bakery’s opening, Paula has participated in many philanthropic community events in the area. “I try to choose events whose causes are close to my heart,” she says. Paula first became involved with the CareLink Meals on Wheels program through her childhood friend and neighbor and former CareLink CEO, Elaine Eubank. She has remained a supporter of the program and is looking forward to CareLink’s upcoming Cupcakes for Goodness Sake event.
